Other information

The Local Studies Library developed as a specialist collection of Barrow Library, which first opened in 1882 in a room near the Town Hall. The later Central Library opened in 1922. Cumbria Record Office, Barrow, was established in 1979 in new purpose-built premises next door to the Central Library. Following building alterations, the local studies library and the record office began to operate a combined search room in October 1998.
