The 'Cambrian' Index This is an on-going project set up to index 'The Cambrian' newspaper. Currently holds c. 290,000 entries in a computer database covering a wide range of topics, mainly covering events in South Wales in an area from Loughor to Ystalyfera to Port Talbot, roughly equating to the former county of West Glamorgan, whose County Library service set the project up. May be accessed by subject, name or date (personal name or place name). Charges at January 1997 are 1.50 per search plus 25p per item found, produced on a computer printout, giving a precis of the Cambrian newspaper article and the date of the issue in which it can be found. The period covered thus far is 1804-1870. Due to the nature of the work, public access is restricted but enquiries are welcomed via Mr Richard Brighton, Supervisor, or Mrs Marilyn Jones, Local Studies Librarian. Further information is available from the project base at the Central Library, tel. 01792 645018, Monday-Friday, 0900-1700.
